Back In Action
I’ve been stuck without a working PC for way too long now. I’m back.
I was relying on a cheap ($120.00) tablet or My smart phone for email an such, but My Polaroid T7 internet tablet sucked so bad for typing because of the incapability of its insensitive touch screen that the attempt was pointless. And although I managed some email with My DroidX, I do not recommend counting on a smartphone (of any type) for managing your digital life. They can enhance your mobile life, but to rely on them as a digital answer is going well beyond what they are capable of doing.
I would like to grab an Asus Prime Transformer to replace My broken netbook PC, but at least I have my Sony Full HD Laptop working again. The power supply (the AC converter) went out on it and now I am using a 3 prong version from Batteries Plus while I await My order for the Sony stock replacement (which isn’t the one that it came with, as My computer has become obsolete).
But at least I can blog again. And I will in the future. Let Me tell you, cheap tablet touchscreens suck and tiny smartphone touchscreens are better, but they are still so tiny that they are too much of a chore to use.
I have lots of Android apps and hardware to recommend in the future, and I’ll be reviewing the Polaroid T7 as well as the Pandigital Planet (that I had been stuck with for 3 months), some android accessories that I think are cool and lots of cool apps, games and even some apps that need their creator(s) scolded.
I’ll be writing again, soon!
Glad to be back.
Crap, WordPress has changed. This will take a great deal of getting used to. I hate advertising. I’ll look for a non-spammy alternative. Maybe Tumblr…

Sick & Tired of Facebook SPAM
I am really starting to get tired of all the spam… “So-and-so” posted “something” on your wall, but when you look at it, you are sent to an application that is supposed to quiz you and has nothing to do with anyone, writing on my wall, a photo of me that someone commented on, a picture of me within a photo, a nquestion about me, or anything. Spam is what made me walk away from Yahoo, they did not take my privacy seriously. Google has, and although I don’t like their monopolistic corporate greed attitude, I am still there because they are seemingly serious about protecting my account.
This is the same reason that people left MySpace and strolled over to Facebook. We were sick of all the spam. But if Facebook is just going to become another damn haven for spammers, you can count me out.
Facebook, get your head out of your butt right now. Or I will be gone.

Browser Address Bar Hijacking? -Not! Or IS it?
I love FireFox. It works much quicker than anything else and is much more reliable. And there are all those neat little plug-in add-ons that really increase its convenience, versatility & effectiveness. There are many great and useful little add-ons that I have used reliably and loyally. Until now, when I just noticed that something has hijacked my browser’s address bar!
It must be one of those great little FF add-ons that has hijacked my FireFox browser’s address bar, and I find that extremely annoying and a bit troublesome. Especially since I have now uninstalled every single add-on that I have ever installed, including things like the Norton security toolbar, except for the few web designer/developer add-ons that I have found to be trusted tools. Still, the error persists.
Or is it MY MISTAKE? I bet it is. Yup, it is. Heck, the same thing happens in IE.
What is happening is that I am entering a typo when I search and I am getting Search.com results for my typo. What is the typo? Any name, with an extra dot com.
For instance, let’s say that you are at your home page. Then you decide to go somewhere else, but instead of following a link on your home page or selecting a bookmark from the menu, you know the address and so you use the address bar. Let’s just say that your home page is a dot com (.com) tld (Top Level Domain). So in order to save typing, you just select the sometextstring in http://www.sometextstring.com/ and with that text selected, you simply start typing in the domain’s actual name where you want to visit. But, if you also type in the extension of .com out of habit, you wind-up with the address of http://www.foosite.com.com/.
Although http://www.foosite.com.com/ is very obviously a typo domain, c|net was smart enough to grab the domain. So now they get all this typo traffic, which is significant. So obviously this is what confused me, because then c|net uses the domain at search.com to interpret the referring URL into a search term, and it looks like some search engine has hyjacked my browser address bar via some toolbar or plug-in. So I went and uninstalled nearly all of them.
But c|net doesn’t mention any of this on their Search.com site (that I can tell in my search, using their own engine). Instead, they seem to blame this deliberate action on a malicious software, toolbar or add-on. VERY DECEPTIVE, c|net. This lack of honesty and these type of deceptive business practices is exactly what I hate about corporations. It is not immoral to do this, it is actually smart. But if you are hassling us by deceiving us as we land there and blaming other crap over the stunt you pulled on us, you are quite simply railroading us with lies, c|net.
One has to wonder why “com” was not a reserved word in the first place, like domain (you can not register “domain” in any tld or country code domain extension). There are simply a few words that are reserved because of such mistakes on their authority or perceived use. Why wasn’t “com” one of those, this all seems perfectly ridiculous to have overlooked it.
One also has to wonder why c|net, usually a pretty smart cookie, can’t treat it’s visitors and patrons with any sort of respect. I had nothing but admiration for them before now. Now it sticks as a craw in my butt that they cannot treat me with respect and offer me the very url I am seeking. Instead, they offer advertiser crap that I don’t want and has nothing to do with the original intended URL. Search engines are supposed to be helpful utilities, not deceptive ad engines. Clearly, they are making gobs on the traffic they are getting, but they could make a great deal more by treating us respectfully and honoring our intentions, which is exactly what a real search engine does.
Where is the ethics department at c|net now, in the toilet? Don’t they understand what is considered ill-will can be hurtful to them as well as their patrons?
I am absolutely astonished that c|net has stooped so low. Not because they did this, but because they hid it and were not honest, open and forthright about it. They could have been seen as saints, and instead they are seen as thieves and scum spammers.
Grow up and get real, c|net.

About
Welcome to my blog. I wear a lot of hats. I’ve been working as a freelance web designer since I left Augustana College as Symbiotic Design. I fancy myself as an artist. I design logos, graphics, websites, fonts and ads. I draw with pencils, charcoal, pen & ink. I also do computer illustrations and digital cartoons. I sell domain names, web hosting (Linux or Windows), virtual servers (Linux or Windows), dedicated servers (Linux or Windows), SSL certificates, e-commerce software, and do-it-yourself traffic generation tools at Domain Hostmaster. I have even acquired some premium domain names as a Domainer. While premium domain name speculation is usually based on traffic and/or branding efforts, I seem to do OK. I do of course, develop a few of my own domain names, and some actually generate nice small supplemental income streams for My efforts through PPC advertising. I’ve developed many logos for many of my own domain name brands, as well as designed logos for others. In many respects I am also quite a branding expert and business identity architect. I also do search optimization, website presence promotion, online marketing and advertising. I’m also a real social networking and medias geek.
I’ve been working a “part-time” position at Kohl’s for the past couple of years trying to get my foot in the door for a permanent full-time graphic design position. I put the “part-time” in quotes because it’s wrong. Under the company policy I am a part-timer, but I have and often do work full-time hours. The truth is that I am usually working full-time hours when retail business is in season, and cut down to almost no hours without a moment’s notice when it is not. So I am not real happy with the retail industry because they just don’t take care of their employees and if you hurt yourself at work their insurance company treats you terribly.
In the meantime, I create logos and websites as a freelancer in my spare time. I also enjoy creating fonts. You can see my entire collection of freeware TTF PC fonts at my Font-Journal.com website by searching my name, Doug Peters. I also try to keep up a small portfolio of my work at Doug-Peters.com.
I had been employed full time by Syd’s Eastside Auto Salvage, Inc. in Yankton, South Dakota, as the webmaster and online marketing director on a very flexible schedule that allowed me to continue My work for my clientel as their graphic and web designer for a couple and a half years. But I was laid-off. Times were getting rough and the economy was bad, which is why I took that position in the first place.
When I freelance, I usually do it as Symbiotic Design. This allows Me some flexibility with my employer so that I can clear hours and availability, if need be, to accomplish a large project, should one arise. This gives me the fortunate ability to concentrate on my client’s projects and design concerns without distraction from My full time hours as a part-time employee, if need be.
I pride Myself in the quality of work I do and in the finished product that I deliver. If ever you are not satisfied with any of My delivered design, illustration, or artwork I will always try to address your concerns or refund your commission. That guarantee comes with a double-edged sword, though. If you do not listen to Me, an art educated, design sensitive realistic idealist, you may choose the worst design I offer. Therefore, I now only take on clients that believe in Me, understand My work, and have faith in My skills.
However, please also remember that I also hire developers to tackle specific programming tasks as may be required per job according to functionality. Therefore any development work (programming) requirements are not refundable. Luckily, as a designer, I also have many scripts and open source applications from which I can draw, utilize and customize for My clients.
As a graphic designer, I excel in a few Adobe products such as Photoshop, Illustrator & Dreamweaver. I also have experience in Premiere and Director and other videographic technologies through my work at the University of Sioux Falls. I am also teaching myself Flash to compliment and animate My experience with Adobe Illustrator.
If there is anything I can do for you, please know that I would love to discuss it with you.
Thanks for stopping in! –Doug Peters

Art Changes the World
We are rocketing slowly through the universe as we spin around on a living planet that orbits a black hole. We live only a nano fraction of this orbit as other galaxies speed away from us beyond the speed of light. We measure in 4 dimensions based on the X, Y and Z axises, plus the advent time. But we only live in one dimension of a flat universe. Yet the multiverse is a living thing with a great sense of humor. As fast as the world is changing, the "human race" will never catch up. Pray there is a God, we need one.Twit Domainating’s Tweets
